Advisory Board Member:

Judy Masserang
Manager, General Motors University Distance Learning, General Motors Video Satellite Network

As manager of both networks, Judy is responsible for network operations of 13 video channels and for the installation, operation and maintenance of approximately 8300 video satellite remote locations in the US, Canada, and Mexico, including the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Judy’s professional career began in 1982 at WTVS/56 Public Television in Detroit when Chrysler Corporation began broadcasting live three times monthly to its field sales and service employees gathered at an ever-changing list of their favorite hotels or conference centers across the US. In 1984 she went to work for Private Satellite Network with responsibility to manage the installation and start up of both the Ford Communications Network (FCN) and the GM Video Satellite Network. In 1985 her GM customer and the responsibility for the GM Network transitioned from GM to EDS. He convinced her to follow. Her primary responsibility during her 13-year tenure at EDS was the management and growth of the GM Video Satellite Network, although she also managed the start-up of the EDS/GM videoconference network. Judy went to work for General Motors in 1998. In July 1999, GM added live interactive distance learning to all North America sites. In 2005, GM did a wholesale swap of existing video/IDL equipment with a new integrated unit in approximately 8 weeks time. This unit automates most functions, added a DVR feature—fully optimized by GM and its dealers—and allows for remote diagnostics and repair.
